Once upon a time, BlackBerry smartphones were seen as the epitome of business class phones. With one successful model after another, owning a BlackBerry was a coveted dream for many. However, with the arrival of Android and the iPhone, the company faded from the market.
Now, a smartphone reminiscent of BlackBerry has made a comeback in the market: introducing Clicks Communicator. Clicks are known for crafting keyboard cases for smartphones, especially for Apple and flip phones, where keyboards are a mainstay.
The brand has now launched its first smartphone, named Communicator, featuring a keyboard that evokes nostalgia from an era when such phones were widely popular. The company aims to bring back the Blackberry days, but with a modern twist.
However, this isn't just intended as a regular smartphone replacement. The company's focus is on providing a companion phone emphasizing necessary features. It combines the design elegance of BlackBerry with iPhone-like action buttons.
The Clicks Communicator is priced at $499 (around 45,000 INR). It can be reserved for $199. The early bird price is set at $399 (about 36,000 INR) for those who have it reserved.
The Clicks Communicator features a backlit, touch-sensitive QWERTY keyboard that supports scrolling. The phone includes USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MicroSD card slot. There's a special button for Airplane Mode and a programmable side button, akin to the iPhone's action button.
It supports dual SIM (physical and eSIM) and sports a 4.03-inch AMOLED display. The device is powered by a 4000mAh battery, featuring a 50MP rear and 24MP front camera. It’s equipped with a MediaTek 5G processor and runs on Android 16. Plus, the cover is interchangeable.
