On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir. They engaged in discussions on regional security, counter-terrorism, and mutual interests. Following the meeting, the army issued a statement affirming China's firm backing of Pakistan's sovereignty and development. Wang's prior trip to India is perceived as a significant step toward improving bilateral relations.

After his visit to India and Afghanistan, the Chinese Foreign Minister arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday to participate in the sixth round of strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers. During his time in Pakistan, Wang also held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.

In a statement on Friday regarding Wang Yi's meeting with Asim Munir, the military emphasized China's unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development. Both parties agreed to strengthen their ever-enduring strategic partnership. Discussion efforts focused on regional security, counter-terrorism, and matters of mutual interest.

It further added, 'Both sides consented to reinforce their strategic partnership under all circumstances and to enhance cooperation on regional and international forums. Wang Yi reiterated China’s unwavering support for Pakistan's sovereignty and development.'

Munir expressed gratitude towards China's continuous support. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to furthering peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, according to the military.

Last month, Munir visited China, where he met with Vice President Han Zheng, Wang, and top military officials. However, President Xi Jinping did not meet with Munir during this visit.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed topics such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor 2.0, trade, and economic relations. Wang also took part in a trilateral meeting in Kabul with his counterparts from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The parties agreed to enhance cooperation in various areas, including extending the CPEC to Kabul.

This marks Wang's second visit to Pakistan in three years. Earlier this week, Wang was in New Delhi, where he held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. During his India trip, Wang Yi participated in the 24th round of the special representatives' boundary dialogue with NSA Ajit Doval on Tuesday.
