Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, recently participated in a national conference on 'Cyber Security - Awareness, Protection, and Inclusive Access to Justice' held in Jaipur. During the conference, he shared his personal experience regarding fake websites originating from Nigeria that have sent messages to his family members under his name.

The CJI detailed how these fake sites, claiming to be associated with him, have reached out to his family, including young lawyers like his sisters and daughters. He expressed his concern over the fact that almost every other day, he learns about yet another fake site being created under his name. He highlighted the prevalence of these insidious activities orchestrated from Nigeria.

Justice Kant addressed the undeniable convenience brought by the digital revolution, significantly easing governance, services, and communication. Yet, he stressed the lack of a judicial process termed as Digital Arrest at present.

Throughout the conference, CJI strongly advocated that ensuring cyber security should be viewed as a fundamental component of civic education. He urged all institutions to work collaboratively as coordinated partners.

Announcement of a Special Cyber Court in Rajasthan

In a promising move, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan announced the establishment of a special cyber court in the state. CJI Surya Kant thanked the Chief Minister for this initiative, which aims to tackle the growing challenges posed by the digital era's rapid technology advancements and its associated cybercrimes.

The Chief Minister declared that the special cyber court would not only expedite case resolutions but also enhance public awareness about cybercrimes.

Prominent political and legal figures participated in the event, including Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, Dr. Premchand Bairwa, and Rajasthan's Law and Legal Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel. They encouraged everyone to contribute ideas on improving digital security and raising cyber awareness.

The Importance of Educating People on Cyber Threats

Cybersecurity experts recognized that with the rapid increase in technological usage in the digital world, safeguarding personal data and financial information has become increasingly challenging. CJI Surya Kant emphasized the need for stringent rules and policies and insisted that educating every sector of society about cybercrimes and their threats is essential beyond just relying on technical solutions.
