The Election Commission of India has announced the by-election dates for 48 assembly seats across 14 states and the Wayanad and Nanded Lok Sabha seats. On November 13, voting will take place for 47 assembly seats in 13 states, including 9 seats in Uttar Pradesh. By-elections for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala will occur on the same day. By-elections for the Kedarnath assembly seat in Uttarakhand and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will take place on November 20. The results for all these assembly and Lok Sabha by-elections will be declared on November 23.

In Uttar Pradesh, by-elections were scheduled for 10 seats: Sisamau in Kanpur, Phulpur in Prayagraj, Karhal in Mainpuri, Majhwan in Mirzapur, Milkipur in Ayodhya, Katheri in Ambedkarnagar, Ghaziabad Sadar, Khair in Aligarh, Kundarki in Moradabad, and Meerpur in Muzaffarnagar. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the by-election date for Milkipur. This seat became vacant after Samajwadi Party leader Awadhesh Prasad Pasi resigned, having been elected from Faizabad Parliamentary Seat in the Lok Sabha elections and subsequently resigning from UP Assembly membership.

No By-election Announcement Yet for UP's Milkipur Seat

The Samajwadi Party has fielded Awadhesh Prasad’s son, Ajit Prasad, as the candidate from Milkipur. Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a case against Ajit for kidnapping, hostage-taking, and assault. Ajit Prasad has challenged the FIR lodged against him in court, which could be a reason the Election Commission has not yet declared by-election dates for the Milkipur seat.

By-elections for Nanded and Wayanad Parliamentary Seats Too

The by-election in Maharashtra's Nanded seat is due to the demise of Congress MP Vasantrao Balwant Rao Chavan, who passed away on August 26. Vasantrao defeated BJP's Prataparav Govindrao Chikhalikar in this year's Lok Sabha elections by 46,9452 votes in Nanded. In Kerala, the Wayanad parliamentary seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi's resignation. He contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli but chose to relinquish the Wayanad seat. Congress has nominated Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the Wayanad by-election.
