A 24-year-old student at South Kolkata Law College has accused three individuals of gang rape. She claims the incident happened after rejecting Manojit Mishra's (age 31) marriage proposal. Manojit, a district secretary of the Trinamool Congress Student Council (TMCP) and an alumnus of the college, faces serious allegations in her complaint. The forensic team has arrived at the South Kolkata Law College to investigate and gather samples from the crime scene.
Marriage Proposal Rejection Angers Accused
In her police complaint, the victim stated that Manojit Mishra pressured her to marry him. She refused, as she was already in a relationship, prompting threats to harm her boyfriend and implicate her parents in false cases.
Three Accused Involved in the Incident
The complaint mentions that on June 25, Manojit Mishra (age 31), first-year student Zaib Ahmed (age 19), and Pramit Mukherjee (age 20) forcibly confined her in a campus room. They battered her, attempting forcible sexual relations despite her protests.
'Cried and Pleaded, But They Ignored'
Despite her relentless struggle to defend herself, the victim's pleas fell on deaf ears. She cried and repeatedly begged to be released, mentioning her boyfriend, but they were unmoved. According to the complaint, she implored the main accused, touching his feet, but he refused to let her go. They dragged her to a guard room, stripped her of her clothes, and violated her.
Threatened with Video, Guard Stood Silent
The student accused Manojit of recording the assault, threatening to release the video if she dared speak. When she attempted escape, they tried attacking her with a hockey stick. She experienced panic and breathing difficulties, but help never came. The college's main gate was bolted, and the guard remained a mute spectator. Her pleas for medical assistance were ignored, as the perpetrators refused to take her to a hospital. Her complaint asserts, 'I demand justice.'
Political Pressure and Fidelity Test
Prior to the gang rape, she was called to the student union room with seven others by Manojit Mishra. He discoursed on the unit's prowess, querying her loyalty. As a girls' secretary, she expressed support, but on re-entering the union room, Pramit Mukherjee queried her understanding. She responded affirmatively, stressing her unit support, reassuring them.
Details of the Incident and Arrests
The incident occurred on June 25 between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM on campus. She came at noon to fill an exam form, initially sitting in the union room. Later, the gate was locked, and she was dragged to the guard room where the crime took place. Post FIR at Kasba Police Station, the trio was arrested. Manojit Mishra and Zaib Ahmed were caught on June 26 near Talbagan Crossing, while Pramit Mukherjee was detained from his residence on June 27. All mobile phones were confiscated.
