In the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) has made a remarkable comeback after a shaky start. On April 20 (Sunday), Mumbai clinched a commanding victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium by 9 wickets. This marked Mumbai's third consecutive win. With 8 points from 4 victories in eight matches, Mumbai has now climbed to the sixth spot in the points table.
MI's Fortune Shines with Bumrah's Return...
Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowling ace, played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians' resurgence. In his absence, Mumbai won only one out of their first four matches. However, upon his return, they clinched three out of the next four games. Because of a lower back injury, Bumrah missed the initial matches for Mumbai.
Jasprit Bumrah's first appearance in IPL 2025 was against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Though he didn't take any wickets in that game, he conceded only 29 runs. Against Delhi Capitals (DC), he grabbed one wicket, giving away 44 runs.
Facing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Bumrah was in top form, conceding just 21 runs and dismissing Heinrich Klaasen with a brilliant yorker. In his latest match against Chennai Super Kings, Bumrah took 25 runs and scalped the prized wickets of both Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Shivam Dube.
Dhoni's Magic Fades Against Bumrah
Statistics don’t lie, and in IPL, Jasprit Bumrah has consistently outshone Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bumrah has sent Dhoni back to the pavilion more times than any other bowler in the league. Renowned as a finisher against world-class bowlers, Dhoni often finds himself in trouble when facing India’s top fast bowler in the IPL.
In IPL showdowns, Bumrah has bowled 65 deliveries to Dhoni, who managed only 62 runs while falling prey to Bumrah four times. Dhoni's average against Bumrah reads 15.5 with a strike rate of 95.38, and notably, Dhoni failed to score off 28 of Bumrah's deliveries.

Missing the entire IPL 2023 season due to a back injury, Bumrah was also sidelined for the recent domestic series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah's Form a Blessing for Team India
Bumrah's impressive return to form is a significant boost for Team India. After IPL 2025, India is scheduled to tour England for a five-Test series against the host team. This series is set to commence soon after the final game of the WTC's third cycle. India's last Test series visit to England was in 2021, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The final Test of that series, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, was played in 2022, resulting in England's seven-wicket win.
