An intriguing sight emerged in Damascus, Syria's capital, as a long traffic jam formed with thousands of vehicles. Al Jazeera reports that displaced citizens are returning to Damascus upon learning that the Assad regime has been defeated by opposition forces and change is underway.
In response to the leadership change in Syria, residents of Damascus and other cities took to the streets. Protestors in Hama, 200 km from Damascus, celebrated jubilantly, pulling down and demolishing Hafez al-Assad's statue amidst loud cheers.
In another video supporting the rebels, demonstrators were seen dragging the severed head of the former President's statue from a vehicle. It was dragged on the street as some sat on it and kicked it. In Latakia city, another statue of the former President was also toppled, creating a festive atmosphere among the celebrating protestors.
