Reportedly, during an idol immersion event in the Maharajganj area of Mahasi Tehsil, Bahraich, the accused abducted Ramgopal and executed the murder plan. After discovering the body, the post-mortem uncovered that Ramgopal had been extensively tortured before being shot. It is believed that electrocution and excessive bleeding from wounds led to a brain hemorrhage, resulting in his death.
How the Violence Erupted in Bahraich
In fact, the violence erupted in Bahraich's Hardi Police Station area in Rehua Mansoor village. On Sunday evening around 6 PM, Ramgopal Mishra joined a procession for Durga idol immersion. As the procession passed through a community-specific neighborhood in Maharajganj Bazaar, an argument ensued. Allegedly, stones were hurled from rooftops, causing chaos during the immersion.

During this turmoil, Ramgopal was taken into a house and brutally killed. News of his death sparked riots in Maharajganj, with enraged protesters damaging and setting fire to multiple vehicles and the accused's house.
The tension escalated further on Monday when Ramgopal's body reached the village. The agitated mob once again unleashed vandalism and arson in the Maharajganj area, targeting homes, nursing homes, bike showrooms, and shops. The police used tear gas to control the frenzied crowd.
With the situation worsening, internet services across the district were suspended. PAC, RAF were deployed on the streets for safety, and even the STF chief took to the streets armed with a pistol. Even three days post-incident, the atmosphere in Mahasi's Maharajganj remains tense.
