Ahmedabad Aviation Disaster: 210 Victims' Remains Handed Over

Comprehensive DNA testing was carried out to identify victims of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar. DNA matches were confirmed for 231 bodies, and 210 were returned to families, including 22 locals.

Extensive DNA testing was conducted in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar following the Air India plane crash to identify victims. So far, DNA samples from 231 deceased individuals have been matched with their families, and accordingly, 210 bodies have been handed over to their relatives.

At Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, DNA matches have been confirmed for 21 bodies, out of which 10 will be claimed by their families by Saturday morning. After receiving air clearance, three more bodies will be released to families, while other relatives await DNA matches for eight more bodies.

Out of the 210 bodies returned to families, 11 were local, non-passenger individuals. Thus, 199 bodies have so far been returned to families of those who were on board the crash site. Among these, there were 155 Indian citizens, 36 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national.

It should be noted that 241 individuals perished when the Air India plane crashed, with only one passenger miraculously surviving. Out of these, 199 bodies have been returned to their families, leaving 42 passengers yet to be handed over.

In the Ahmedabad crash, eight bodies were handed over to families without DNA matching due to straightforward identification. Subsequently, three individuals succumbed to injuries in the hospital. These 11 lives were local individuals who tragically died as a result of the crash.

Additionally, after matching DNA, 11 local victims' bodies were handed over, comprehensively confirming the deaths of 22 local individuals in the aftermath of the crash.

Taking into account the 241 passengers on the plane, the total death toll now stands at 270 from the crash, a number that is expected to rise as 21 bodies remain to be returned, potentially involving both passengers and local individuals.
