An unsettling incident from Gorakhpur's Belghat police station area highlights a stark betrayal in relationships. A young man, after a quarrel over his wife's mobile phone, tragically ended her life and secretly buried her body in a six-foot deep pit behind their residence. Despite the subsequent misdirection attempts lasting four days, the truth eventually surfaced.
A Clash Over a Mobile Phone
This incident unfolded in the village of Bailikund, within Belghat police jurisdiction. Arjun, a 26-year-old local, had a heated argument with his 26-year-old wife Khushboo on December 21. The dispute was fueled by suspicions of Khushboo talking to another man on her phone. Arjun, who had recently returned from Ludhiana after working as a laborer, was alone at home with Khushboo that night.
Body Buried in a Vacant Plot
During the altercation, Arjun allegedly strangled Khushboo and buried her body in a pit he dug on vacant land behind their house. Following the murder, Arjun fabricated a story, claiming Khushboo had left without informing anyone, prompting a futile search by both sides of the family.
When Khushboo was not found after four to five days, Arjun’s father, Shyam Narayan, grew suspicious of his son's narrative. On Thursday morning, he reported the incident to Belghat Police, expressing concern his daughter-in-law had been killed. The police swiftly acted and initiated an investigation, taking Arjun into custody for questioning.
Misleading Police for Hours
In custody, Arjun attempted to deceive the police for hours, proposing various scenarios, such as his wife committing suicide or disappearing in a river. It wasn't until rigorous interrogation that he confessed to the crime.
With Arjun’s information, police excavated the area behind the house and retrieved Khushboo’s body, which was dispatched for a post-mortem. Authorities noted the murder stemmed from suspicions of an extramarital affair and a dispute over her phone. As Khushboo’s parents are deceased, her brother and relatives arrived at the police station following the news. The police have filed charges against Arjun and are pursuing further legal actions.
