Following the terror attack on April 22 in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the central government has adopted a stringent stance against Pakistan and terrorists. Recently, the police apprehended a young man from Kulgam, who was suspected to be an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of a terror outfit. During interrogation, he fled from the police and jumped into a river, resulting in his death.
Uproar Over Imtiyaz Ahmad's Death
In this series of events, police detained 23-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmad for allegedly being a ground worker for the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization. Police claim that during interrogation, when Imtiyaz was taken to a specific location for identification, he jumped into a river to save himself. He drowned due to the strong current.

The police released drone footage of the incident, showing a young man jumping into the river and being swept away by the water. The police assert that this footage reflects the transparency of the incident.
Family Rejects Police's Claims
However, Imtiyaz’s family rejected the police's claims, declaring his death suspicious and demanding a judicial investigation. The family alleges that Imtiyaz was taken two days earlier for interrogation, but now his body has been found in the river.
Sakina Ittoo Demands Judicial Inquiry
Minister Sakina Masood Ittoo, from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's government, responded to the incident, stating that such events widen the trust gap between the public and security forces. She demands a judicial investigation into this matter.
Mehbooba Mufti Raises Concerns
Moreover, People's Democratic Party chief and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti also raised serious concerns regarding Imtiyaz’s death. She said conditions being created could once again harm tourism in the valley. She demands a fair investigation to reveal the truth.
