The enchanting beauty of snowfall continues to blanket various regions of Jammu & Kashmir. The meteorological department predicts more snowfall ahead. Tourists from far and wide arrive to soak in the splendor of snow-covered landscapes. Amidst this, the snow-kissed scenery unveils the glorious sight of flocks of migratory birds. Post-snowfall, Wular Lake, the second-largest freshwater lake in Asia, once again serves as a winter haven for migratory birds.

Millions find refuge here, coming from Central Asia, Siberia, and Europe. A dazzling array of migratory species now graces the lake, including the Great Egret, Little Egret, Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Mallard, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Greylag Goose, and the Coot.

A delightful influx of birds signifies the ecological vitality of Wular Lake.

The abundance of Great Egrets highlights the lake's pristine waters, vital for the proliferation of this species. The seasonal arrival of these majestic birds underscores the ecological significance of Wular Lake. This is why it's considered one of the crucial winter sanctuaries in the region.

Meanwhile, the Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA) has embarked on several initiatives to promote conservation and awareness. Activities such as painting competitions, bird-watching events, and awareness camps draw people to the vibrant ambiance.

WUCMA is hosting a bird-watching festival from the 9th to the 14th of this month, aiming to boost lake care, tourism, and community engagement.
