In a bizarre twist to marital discord in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, a wife took to WhatsApp to issue a virtual contract on her husband's life, offering a bounty of ₹50,000 to anyone willing to carry out the deed. The husband, petrified upon seeing the status, dashed to the police station seeking protection and accused a friend of the wife of intimidation.
Media reports state that this incident emerged from the Bah police station territory in Agra. The complainer reported that his marriage with a young woman from Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh took place on July 9, 2022. Since the wedding, discord had been brewing, leading the wife to return to her parental home in Bhind that December.
Furthermore, the wife filed for maintenance at the Bhind court, obliging the husband to travel for court dates. Meanwhile, on December 21, 2023, upon returning from court, his in-laws reportedly threatened to end his life.
Recently, the wife leveraged her WhatsApp status to openly solicit her husband's murder, citing her disapproval of their forced marriage. She promised ₹50,000 to the man's potential killer.
Inspector-in-charge of Bah, Shyam Singh, reported that upon the young man's complaint, a case was registered under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act 2008. The police are actively investigating the matter.
