The CBI is investigating several angles in the rape-murder case of a lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to sources, the agency is trying to understand why the police were notified 40 minutes after the discovery of the doctor’s body. They are also examining if hospital officials attempted to cover up the crime between the time the body was found and the police arrived at the crime scene.

According to the Kolkata police inquiry, the lady doctor's body was found at 9:30 am on August 9, but the first call to the police station was made at 10:10 am—40 minutes later. There is only a one-kilometer distance between RG Kar Medical College and Tala Police Station, which can be covered in just four minutes. Despite this, it took the police over an hour to reach the crime scene, which is being seen as a major lapse.

This resulted in an hour-long delay between discovering the body and sealing the crime scene, causing a crowd to gather and potentially tampering with the crime scene. The CBI is examining the call data record (CDR) of former Principal Sandeep Ghosh to determine if there was any interference on his part. He was summoned for questioning for a record 14th time on Friday. Additionally, the CBI interrogated the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.

An exclusive image obtained by AajTak shows a crowd at the crime scene in the hospital’s seminar hall. The CBI, which is investigating the case, claimed in the Supreme Court that the crime scene was tampered with, which this photograph corroborates. However, Kolkata police argue that the people seen in the image were authorized to be there.

Sources within Kolkata police claim that the photograph is from August 9. Previously, a 43-second video had surfaced, bringing the working style of the West Bengal government and Kolkata police into question. This video, believed to be from the morning of August 9, shows the crime scene where the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor took place inside the hospital. Many people are seen in the crime scene, talking, peeking, and using mobile phones. What’s even more shocking is that police officers were seen among the crowd.

Kolkata police have confirmed that the video is from the hospital's seminar room on the morning of August 9. They stated that the area around the body had been cordoned off and that the people in the video were outside the sealed-off area.

This explanation by the Kolkata police indicates that several people entered the seminar hall while the body was still there, making securing the crime scene the first and foremost necessity. The video claims to identify several individuals, including police sub-inspector Sanjeev Chattopadhyay, lawyer Shantanu De, former Principal Sandeep Ghosh’s PA, and forensic demonstrator Debashish Som.

This raises the question: what were so many people doing at the crime scene? It’s strange that apart from the hospital’s doctors and staff, several outsiders were also present, who had no legitimate reason to be there. The police now find it difficult to provide answers for this situation. Kolkata police’s DCP Central Indira Mukherjee has verified the authenticity of the video, confirming it is indeed from inside the seminar room.
