Who is Colonel Sophia Qureshi?
In March 2016, then-Lieutenant Colonel Sophia Qureshi led a multinational military exercise involving 18 countries, including powerhouses like China, Japan, Russia, the USA, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia. Held in Pune, she distinguished herself as the only female officer leading a contingent. She has been actively involved in peacekeeping operations. In 2006, she served as a military observer in the UN peace mission in Congo and has been engaged in peace operations since 2010.
Sophia Qureshi's Army Legacy
Originally from Gujarat, Sophia holds a postgraduate degree in Biochemistry. She joined the Indian Army under short service commission in 1999 at just 17. Sophia served as an officer in the Signals Corps. It's noteworthy that she comes from an army background, with her grandfather also having served. Her husband is an officer in the mechanized infantry.
