Only Sachin Ahead... Virat Kohli Sets 28,000 Runs Milestone, Surpassing Legends

In the enthralling first ODI match between India and New Zealand held in Vadodara, Virat Kohli made history. Now, he stands as the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket. The illustrious 37-year-old right-hander from Delhi edged past former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara to claim this remarkable feat.

Competing at the BCA Stadium in Baroda, Kohli needed just 42 runs to surpass Sangakkara's monumental tally of 28,016 runs. During India's chase of 301 runs, he achieved this milestone in the 19th over of the innings.

Concluding his Test career with 9,230 runs in 123 matches, Kohli has amassed 4,188 runs from 125 T20 internationals. In One-Day Internationals, to date, Kohli has scored 14,599* runs in 309 matches.

In the all-time list of run-scorers in international cricket, only the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar sits above Kohli. Between 1989 and 2013, Tendulkar played 664 international matches for India, achieving an incredible 34,357 runs. In Test cricket, he amassed 15,921 runs in 200 matches.

In the ODI arena, Tendulkar's record stands at 18,426 runs from 463 matches. He featured in his only T20 international on December 1, 2006, against South Africa, scoring 10 runs off 12 balls.

To date, Virat Kohli has featured in 309 One-Day Internationals for India. 'King' Kohli has surpassed former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who played in 308 ODIs. Positioned above Kohli are legends Rahul Dravid (340 matches) and Mohammed Azharuddin (334 matches), who Kohli might overtake in the foreseeable future.
