A viral video from a government hospital in Molakalmuru, Chitradurga district, Karnataka, reveals a desperate battle against a power crisis. The footage shows how hospital staff and patients are struggling, with medical examinations being conducted by the light of torches, mobile phone flashes, and candles in the 100-bed hospital.
Officials have been accused of neglect due to a generator that has been out of order for almost a week after heavy rains cut off the electricity supply. MLA NY Gopalkrishna claims that the facility has only a 100-kilowatt generator, despite needing a 250-kilowatt unit to handle the demand from over 100 beds. The Congress leader has alleged that the hospital's chief physician, allegedly affiliated with the BJP, did not inform the local legislator about the issue in an attempt to tarnish his image.
In conversation with India Today, Congress MLA NY Gopalkrishna said that he would submit a proposal to the government demanding the installation of a 250-kilowatt generator. He blamed the previous MLA for the situation. He had visited to inspect the hospital, which led to an altercation with the doctor. Gopalkrishna stated, 'It was my duty to inspect the facility, and the doctor was extremely rude in front of the patients. I advised him that as a doctor, he shouldn't use such language.'
He has accused the doctor of politicizing the situation and trying to damage his reputation. Nonetheless, the MLA noted that the doctor later admitted his mistake and apologized. Meanwhile, the BJP mocked the Congress government over the incident, tweeting photos and videos of the hospital. They posted on X, stating, 'One year guarantee, darkness fate' this is a present from the Congress government in Karnataka, which is celebrating the first anniversary of its term! Under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Congress rule, the situation has become so grave that hospitals are not even being supplied with electricity. The treasury is empty, and there's no power! This is a 'Chombu' (round water vessel) and 'Chippu' (coconut shell) government!'
The Congress had labeled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's central government as a 'Chombu' government, symbolizing emptiness. In response, the BJP launched a campaign calling the Siddaramaiah regime a 'Chippu' government.
