Celebrated author and recent recipient of the 59th Jnanpith Award, Vinod Kumar Shukla, passed away at the age of 89 in Raipur on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief, stating that his contributions, which enriched Hindi literature, will be eternally remembered.
Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that Vinod Kumar Shukla's contributions to the literary world are invaluable, and his condolences are with the bereaved family and admirers in this tough time.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed sorrow, mentioning that Shukla’s passing is an irreparable loss to the literary world.

The Chhattisgarh government has decided to bid him farewell with full state honors acknowledging his incomparable contributions.
Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai hailed him as the pride of the state, stating, ‘The passing of great litterateur Vinod Kumar Shukla is a significant loss. Known for elevating ordinary life in works like ‘Naukar Ki Kameez’ and ‘Diwaar Me Ek Khidki Rehti Thi,’ Vinod Ji will always be in our hearts as Chhattisgarh’s pride. Film Based on His Novel
89-year-old Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away in Raipur due to illness. He was the first litterateur from Chhattisgarh to receive the Jnanpith Award, which was presented to him on November 21 this year at his residence in Raipur.
During his visit on November 1 to Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Modi also enquired about Shukla’s health from his family. Vinod Kumar Shukla was renowned in Hindi literature for his simple, precise, and emotional language. A film was also made by filmmaker Mani Kaul based on his famous novel ‘Naukar Ki Kameez.’
