The BJP government led by Pushkar Singh Dhami in Uttarakhand has put into effect the Uniform Civil Code. Although its regulations have been released, it has prompted opposition from various segments. A petition contesting its implementation was submitted in the High Court. After hearing, the court declared that those facing actions under the UCC, and who don't deem such actions justified, can turn to the courts for recourse.
The Uttarakhand High Court has empowered the individuals facing UCC-related actions with the ability to approach the court. This directive was announced during a hearing on the petition opposing the UCC implementation, assuring that the grievances of affected parties will be addressed.

Will There Be Hearings on Authority's Actions?
Chief Justice G. Narendran communicated to the senior attorney Kapil Sibal, representing the petitioner, that those encountering penal actions from authorities can seek judicial intervention and such cases will be heard. The High Court had earlier issued a notice to the Uttarakhand government, asking for its stance on the petition.
The Uttarakhand Government's Stand on UCC
On January 27, Uttarakhand became the first state to implement the UCC under the BJP administration. This law enforces uniformity across all citizens regardless of religion. Post-implementation, marriages, divorces, and property rights will be governed equally under a common law. A controversial clause mandates the registration of live-in relationships, which has faced significant backlash.
Despite opposition, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami defended the UCC by citing an instance where a live-in partner allegedly murdered his girlfriend in Delhi, suggesting that the UCC's rules would deter such incidents.
