The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, often faces allegations from the opposition BJP and Congress for distributing 'free goodies.' The ruling party, which has announced schemes like free electricity and water in Delhi and Punjab, has now linked these 'free goodies' to a recent announcement by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
With the US presidential election approaching in November, the two major parties, Republicans and Democrats, are making numerous promises to the people. On Thursday, speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump promised to halve electricity bills within a year if he wins the election. He further wrote on social media platform X, 'Within 12 months, I will cut energy and electricity prices in half. We will expedite our environmental approvals and double our power capacity quickly. This will reduce inflation, making America and Michigan the best places on Earth to build factories.'
Reacting to Trump's post, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal quipped, 'Trump has announced that he will halve the electricity rates. The 'free goodies' will reach America.'
This jibe from Kejriwal came after he challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On October 6, during a public meeting, Kejriwal stated that if PM Modi implements free electricity in all 22 states governed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he would campaign for the BJP in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal also targeted BJP’s 'double-engine' governments, accusing them of failing nationwide. He stated, 'The people have understood that a double-engine government means inflation, unemployment, and corruption.'
It is noteworthy that the former Chief Minister of Delhi is using subsidized services such as free electricity, water, education, and healthcare in the national capital as a promotional tool in other states' elections. These are also the primary issues for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal warned the people that if the BJP comes to power in the Delhi Assembly elections, these free services would be discontinued.
