US President Donald Trump has once again made remarks regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He believes that negotiating peace with Russia is simpler compared to Ukraine. Furthermore, he has expressed trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that he believes Putin is interested in ending the war.
During a press conference at the White House, Trump stated, "I trust Putin. Dealing with Ukraine is proving more challenging as they don't have many options. It might be easier to finalize a deal with Russia. We're putting more pressure on Ukraine to bring this war to a quick close."
It's worth noting that Ukraine has been at war with Russia for the past three years, hoping for military and economic assistance from the US. However, the Trump administration has currently suspended the military and intelligence support intended for Ukraine. The goal is to apply pressure on Ukraine to engage in peace talks.
Good Relations with Putin: Trump
Despite threatening new sanctions on Friday against Russia, Trump stated that he understands why Putin's forces launched extensive bombardment in Ukraine overnight. Trump commented, "I think he is doing what anyone in his position would presently do. I have always had good relations with Putin. And as you know, he wants to put an end to this war."
The US President conveyed, "I feel that Putin is going to be more generous than expected, which is very promising. It signifies a lot of positive outcomes." Trump warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting that if Ukraine insists on demanding security guarantees from Western countries, the US might cease its support.
Fiery Debate Between Trump and Zelensky
Notably, a heated debate was witnessed last week between US President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky. Following this spar in the Oval Office witnessed by the media, diplomatic tensions escalated, leading to Zelensky's return to Ukraine without signing any mineral deal. During the discussion, President Trump sternly warned Zelensky, "You are gambling with millions of lives. Your country is in peril, yet you fail to see it." Trump was unequivocal in stating that Ukraine must ultimately compromise with Russia to end the war.
