Trump deploys nuclear submarines near Russia:
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday ordered the positioning of two nuclear submarines close to Russia. This decision came as a response to threats from Dmitry Medvedev, Vice-Chairman of Russia's Security Council and former Russian President.
Posting on social media platform Truth, Trump declared, 'In light of the incendiary statements by Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and current Vice-Chairman of Russia's Security Council, I have directed the strategic placement of two nuclear submarines in key areas. This is a precaution, should these reckless and inflammatory words escalate beyond mere rhetoric. Words are potent, and sometimes they inadvertently lead to serious consequences. I sincerely hope this time it doesn’t.'
From ‘Dead Economy’ to ‘Dead Hand’
Trump had remarked that India and Russia could together sabotage their 'dead economy,' prompting a heated response from Russia and Medvedev's mention of the 'Dead Hand.' The U.S. President has also decided to impose a 25% tariff on India's energy purchases from Russia. In response, Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel, advising caution before discussing the 'dead economies' of India and Russia and venturing into 'dangerous territory,' referencing favorite movies like 'The Walking Dead' and the potential threat posed by the concept of 'Dead Hand'—despite its non-existence today.
Trump assesses Russian losses in Ukraine conflict
Trump posted on Truth about the casualties Russia has suffered in its conflict with Ukraine, stating that approximately 20,000 Russian soldiers have been killed this month in what he described as a foolish war. Since the beginning of the year, Russia has lost about 112,500 soldiers.
The President added that Ukraine has also suffered significantly in this war. From January 1, 2025, approximately 8,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been lost. This figure doesn't account for missing personnel. Some Ukrainian civilians have also been lost, but their numbers are minimal.
