The future of any nation is defined by its policies and leadership. However, when both seem to shift every 24 hours, it risks plunging the country into an abyss. This may be what we're witnessing with the United States. Every step and decision by Donald Trump is proving more perilous for America than for himself. Whether it’s imposing tariff bombs on strategic partners like India, threatening severe sanctions, or risking the loss of India's friendship, these moves are backfiring on the Trump administration. Perhaps belatedly, Trump has begun to realize this.

The tension in the relations between President Trump and PM Modi appears to be dissipating post-tariffs. President Trump lauded PM Modi, calling him a friend and a great leader, to which PM Modi responded by acknowledging and supporting Trump's positive sentiments. Previously, Trump had speculated that the US had lost India and Russia to China's influence, but the changed stance of the US President now signals a strengthening bond between the two nations.

While grievances can arise in global politics, the bond of friendship remains resilient. Hence, Trump's rhetoric on a 'dead economy' India has transformed, possibly fueled by the fear of losing India. On the world stage, India's rising stature reminds Trump of the value and necessity of Modi's friendship. With the US displaying a readiness for friendship, PM Modi promptly responded. He appreciated Trump's positive comments on US-India ties, affirmed respect for Trump's feelings, and emphasized the positive relationship between the two nations.

Trump Imposed a 50% Tariff on India

Before January, both India and PM Narendra Modi supported Trump, anticipating that his victory would further strengthen US-India relations. However, immediately upon assuming office on January 20, 2025, Trump announced a tariff war against India, initially imposing a 25% tariff.

Unsatisfied, Trump further imposed an additional 25% tariff on August 27, alleging India's alignment with Russia. This has made the total tariff burden on India much higher than on any other country. Although India refrained from reacting harshly, aware that discord in friendship does not equate to a fracture. With Trump’s change in tone, there is speculation that the ice between India and the US will thaw in the coming days, advancing stalled economic discussions.
