The US court has summoned the Indian government and top officials regarding the assassination attempt on Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. The center has strongly reacted to this. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that these allegations are completely unfounded and inappropriate. Even though this particular case has been registered, our views will not change. I'd like to draw your attention to the history of the person behind this matter, which is widely known.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that the individual (Pannu) leads an illegal organization banned under UAPA for its anti-national and destructive activities.
The Southern District Court of New York has summoned the Indian government, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, former RAW Chief Samant Goel, along with accused Nikhil Gupta and Vikram Yadav in the assassination case.
Nikhil Gupta was arrested last year in the Czech Republic at the request of the US government for allegedly being involved in the assassination plot of Pannu in New York. He was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic in June this year.
In April 2024, The Washington Post identified Vikram Yadav, an officer from India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), as a conspirator. The report also mentioned that former RAW Chief Samant Goel had approved the operation. However, the center dismissed the report, denying any involvement of Indian agents in the Pannu assassination plot as completely unfounded and inappropriate.
Who is Gurpatwant Singh Pannu?
Gurpatwant Singh Pannu holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada and is wanted in India on terrorism charges. He leads the Khalistani organization Sikh For Justice (SFJ). Pannu, a lawyer by profession, is a key organizer of a referendum campaign for an independent Sikh state, Khalistan. This campaign has been held in countries with significant Indian diaspora such as Canada, the UK, and Australia. Originally from Nathu Chak village in Punjab, Pannu completed his early education in Ludhiana and later moved to Khankot near Amritsar. His father, Mahinder Singh, was a secretary at the Punjab Marketing Board. It is believed that Pannu graduated from Punjab University in the 1990s. He has been politically active since his college days and later moved abroad, initially working as a cab driver and then starting his legal career. In 2007, he founded SFJ and has been a staunch supporter of Khalistan ever since.
