The serene village of Lakhnapur in Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a harrowing discovery as villagers stumbled upon the mutilated body of a Dalit woman in a field on Monday. This chilling incident occurred in Madhoganj police precinct, drawing a throng of villagers to the site. Once informed, authorities identified the victim as Rani Devi, wife of Ramautar from Iksai village, aged approximately 45 years.
On Sunday, Rani Devi had visited the hospital to look after her nephew. Around 5 PM, she informed her daughter Roshni that she was heading home via Baghauli. Her body, however, was tragically found the following day in a field. Details from her husband Ramavatar indicated her sandals, scarf, and broken bangles were discovered at the scene, yet her mobile, purse, and bag were missing.
Such was the state of the corpse that her head had been smashed, complicating identification. Authorities suspect that the brutal act was a deliberate attempt to obscure her identity. Rani Devi was a mother to seven children, four of whom are married, and the others are still receiving education. The family's livelihood relies heavily on agriculture.
Police Delve Into Murder Investigation
Upon news of the incident, ASP Nripendra Kumar, CO Bilgram, and other police officials rushed to the scene, launching a thorough investigation. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. Following a complaint from the family, an FIR has been filed against unidentified attackers, and police are diligently pursuing the investigation.
Responding to the incident, Hardoi's ASP Nripendra Kumar stated, 'A woman's body was discovered in a field at Iksai village. The victim has been identified as Rani Devi. The family was present at the scene. The body is undergoing a postmortem as legal proceedings continue.' This savage murder has instilled a climate of fear and outrage throughout the region.
