In the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Uttar Pradesh government, acting on directions from the central government, has expelled nearly all Pakistani citizens residing in the state within 24 hours.
According to government statements, only one Pakistani citizen remains and will be returned on April 30. During this process, he is being kept under strict surveillance by police and intelligence agencies. The official statement released by the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday highlighted that UP is the first state in the country to swiftly facilitate the return of Pakistani nationals. However, the government did not specify the total number of Pakistani citizens expelled.
Reports from news agencies reveal that after the terrorist incident on April 22 in Pahalgam, the central government instructed all states to immediately send back Pakistani citizens. Following this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level meeting with officials from the Home Department and other agencies to issue stringent directives.
The statement mentioned that Chief Minister Yogi personally directed police teams to ensure the safe passage of Pakistani nationals to the border. Consequently, a high alert was declared across all 75 districts of the state, prompting swift action.
Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police for the state, informed that extensive measures were undertaken as per the Chief Minister's instructions. He stated, "Local police teams escorted all Pakistani citizens to the border for their return. Only one individual remains, who will be deported by April 30."
