In the high-profile Unnao rape case, the bail granted to former legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar has left the victim's family deeply disappointed. On Tuesday, the victim's mother decided to voice her frustration and anger through a protest at India Gate in Delhi, but she was removed from the site. Come Wednesday evening, the victim met with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting took place at the significant political residence of 10 Janpath, where both engaged in discussions surrounding the case's grave nature and the steps needed to ensure justice.
Post meeting, the victim revealed that Rahul Gandhi reached out to her for this encounter and assured her that he is committed to ensuring justice is delivered.
The Victim and Her Family Presented Three Key Demands to Rahul Gandhi
The foremost demand made by the victim was the provision of a top-tier lawyer to represent her case in the Supreme Court. Rahul Gandhi assured them of his unwavering support and promised to ensure the engagement of an experienced and trustworthy lawyer, one who will fiercely contest against Sengar.
The family's second demand was centered around their security concerns. They expressed feeling unsafe with their lives under tangible threat and voiced their desire to relocate to a Congress-governed state that could guarantee better security. Rahul Gandhi took this seriously, promising to take definitive steps to ensure their safety and arrange for their relocation.
Moreover, the victim's husband made a third demand, focusing on the need for gainful employment. Rahul Gandhi pledged special attention to this issue, promising to secure economic support and job opportunities for the victim’s family.

In this crucial meeting, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was also in attendance. The leaders committed to every possible effort to secure justice and safety for the Unnao family, emphasizing the importance of raising the victim's plight to the government and judicial systems in an appropriate manner.
Prior to the meeting at 10 Janpath, the victim expressed her eagerness to discuss the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and President Droupadi Murmu as well, hoping for justice through direct communication.
In the lead-up to this meeting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the forced removal of the victim's mother by paramilitary forces from the protest site, questioning in an X post if such treatment was appropriate for a gang rape victim.
