The new rules introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are sparking nationwide controversy. In the midst of this, Prateek Bhushan Singh, the son of BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh and an MLA from Gonda, has expressed his views. He took to social media platform X to reflect on these regulations and questioned the historical double standards.

In his post, Prateek Bhushan Singh pointed out that the brutal atrocities committed by external invaders and colonial powers are often glossed over as ancient history. Meanwhile, a particular section of Indian society is continuously labeled as historical culprits. He emphasized the need for a thorough re-examination of targeting the very same group today.

Growing Opposition from Upper Caste Community, Warning of Protests

The intent behind UGC's new regulations is to curb caste discrimination within colleges and universities. The rules mandate the establishment of Equal Opportunity Centers in every institution to address complaints related to discrimination. The provisions define Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes as the victimized groups.

Internal Dissent in BJP, Talks of Resignations

The provisions are escalating discontent among upper caste communities. Numerous organizations have commenced protests against these regulations, warning of further demonstrations. The unrest has gained such momentum that Alankar Agnihotri, the SDM of Bareilly, resigned from his post. Even within the BJP, reports of dissatisfaction over UGC's rules are surfacing. This issue continues to gain traction at both political and social levels.
