Tragedy Strikes:

President Ibrahim Raisi of Iran perished in a helicopter crash along with other officials, including the Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian. The accident occurred on Sunday in a remote area, making the search difficult due to poor weather conditions. Consequently, Iran requested assistance from Turkey and Europe.

Europe promptly activated the Copernicus EMS Rapid Response satellite for detailed mapping of the suspected crash region. Meanwhile, Turkey deployed the advanced Bayraktar Akinci drone to aid in the search mission for the Iranian President.

Despite adverse weather, the Turkish drone pinpointed the helicopter's crash site. Let's delve into the capabilities of this remarkable drone...

The Tactical and Strategic Drone that Found the Helicopter

The Bayraktar Akinci drone, a high-level unmanned aerial vehicle, is capable of conducting Search and Rescue (SAR) operations under any conditions. It’s equipped with heat sensors that can detect heat emissions, making it versatile enough for battlefield reconnaissance and assault missions.

Boasting the ability to carry up to 1350 kg of armament, the Bayraktar Akinci can operate at high altitudes, sustain long-endurance flights, and perform surveillance and strikes, even in challenging weather conditions.

Made primarily for warfare and espionage, the Turkish-made Bayraktar Akinci by Baykar company first flew on December 6th, 2019. Over 23 drones have been produced to date. This drone has a hefty take-off weight of over 5.5 tons and is powered by two turboprop engines delivering up to 750 HP.

Echoing Baykar's technological proficiency, Bayraktar Akinci is decked with electronic support and countermeasure systems, dual satellite communication, air-to-air radar, collision avoidance radar, and advanced synthetic aperture radar among others.

Capable of carrying 400 kg internally and 950 kg of external munitions load, the drone's true prowess lies in its air-to-surface capabilities, including the launch of cruise missiles—a first in drone technology.

The endurance of this UAV is remarkable, capable of flying for more than 25 hours straight with a range of over 7000 kilometers, reaching altitudes up to 38,000 feet. Its wingspan is an impressive 66 feet, allowing it to fly at speeds of up to 463 km/hr.
