The intensity of the rain and floods in Jammu has hit a peak, completely disrupting train movements and causing severe inconvenience to thousands traveling along this railway route. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the fact that a passenger train has been stranded at Manwal railway station between Jammu and Katra for the past 24 hours, forcing approximately 1,500 travelers to remain stationed there.

The Train's Journey from Chennai to Vaishno Devi

The Jammu-Katra rail line bears the brunt of the heavy rains, resulting in multiple train immobilizations due to damaged tracks. Train number 16031, Andaman Express, has been stuck for 24 hours. Originating from Chennai Central, this train usually completes its 2,882 km journey to Vaishno Devi Katra in around 53 hours. However, it remains halted at Manwal Station amidst the deluge, compelling passengers to remain onsite, with meals being prepared at the station itself.

Boulders on Tracks Halt Trains

Andaman Express was stopped at Manwal station yesterday at noon due to sudden boulder falls, causing the track to be completely disrupted. The severe rainfall has also eroded roads around the track, complicating rescue operations.

Railway's Relief Effort for Stranded Passengers

Northern Railway has been actively working to alleviate the distress of the 1,500 passengers stranded in the Andaman Express by attempting to clear the track and provide food and water. Coordination with local NGOs and civic groups sees local RPF/GRP deliver essential supplies, including food prepared at the station.

Passengers Marooned Across Several Stations

Passengers not only at Manwal but also at Chak Rakhwal, Sangar, Vijaypur, and Ghagwal stations face adversity due to stranded trains. Station employees along with RPF/GRP are providing continuous aid. Help desks at major stations like JAT, SVDK, PTK, and PTKC provide crucial information, while supervision is maintained 24/7. Local transport availability is ensured for passengers at Vijaypur and Bari Brahamana.

Adverse Conditions on Jammu-Katra Rail Route

According to the Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway's Jammu Division, train services have been canceled, citing adverse weather conditions. Within this period, nine trains operating between Jammu-Katra and originating from the Vaishno Devi Katra temple have been canceled, with an additional thirteen trains halted at Katra, Jammu, and Udhampur stations, making for a total of 22 cancellations.
