In a harrowing incident in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, a man living in a domestic partnership attempted to immolate his partner, leaving her severely burnt. The woman is now in a critical condition, receiving treatment in the district hospital, whilst police have registered a case against the absconding accused.

Last Monday night, the tribally-affiliated woman was admitted to district hospital after sustaining serious burn injuries. It is told that the woman had ceased all communication with her partner, Aryan Malviya, due to his intoxication and violent behavior, and had refused to marry him. Outraged by this, he reportedly set her on fire with petrol.

According to sources, the man arrived at the woman’s home on Monday morning wielding a knife and provoked a confrontation. Although she filed a complaint with the Ganj police, the two settled their dispute there. Nevertheless, the man implored her not to bother him again, to which she eventually agreed.

Late Monday evening, Aryan Malviya arrived at her home with petrol and initially poured it on the woman’s home. Sensing the danger, the woman and her mother fled outside, where the man doused the woman in petrol and set her on fire with a lighter. She has been badly burnt in the incident.

The victim, who works at a petrol pump, lives with her mother in a rented house in Hamalapur. Previously, she lived in a live-in relationship with Aryan Malviya, but discontinued it due to his actions and also refused to marry him. Her treatment is ongoing at the district hospital, while police are actively searching for the accused Aryan Malviya.

The victim's mother stated that a complaint was filed at the police station when the man chased after to harm them with a knife. The police took the man into custody, but the daughter asked for his release. He returned at night and committed the act of setting her on fire, even attempting to drown her in a water tank while commanding her to die.

The in-charge of the Ganj police station, TI Ravikant Dehariya, said that the victim had been living in a rented home in Hamalapur for three years and worked at a petrol pump. Aryan Malviya had been in a live-in relationship with her for the same duration. They had a dispute around fifteen to twenty days ago, after which Aryan Malviya left the home. He returned only yesterday, had another dispute, and subsequently set her on fire. A case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused, who is currently being sought by the authorities.
