In a shocking case of gang rape at IIT BHU, the police have arrested all the accused after 60 days of the incident. The shocking event took place almost two months ago.
Three youths on a bullet bike forced a student at gunpoint to disrobe in the IIT campus late at night. They even recorded a video of the incident. In the aftermath, there were prolonged protests at IIT BHU demanding better security.
According to reports, all the arrested individuals are from Varanasi, and the police have also seized the bullet bike used in the crime. The arrested youths are Kunal Pandey, Abhishek Chauhan, and Saksham Patel.
When did the incident happen?
On November 2nd, a second-year student of IIT was out for a walk around 1:30 am from her new girls' hostel. She had walked a short distance with a friend when three unknown youths on a bullet bike entered the campus, forcibly separated the two, and sexually assaulted the girl.
What did the victim say?
The victim recounted that she was not only threatened and coerced but had her clothes forcibly removed and was even kissed by the assailants. They recorded a video and took her phone number. During this heinous ordeal, IIT BHU’s student was trapped for about 10-15 minutes among the assailants. Following her complaint, the police registered a case under IPC sections 354(b), 506, and 66 IT Act at Lanka police station. Protests continued by students, which later spilled onto the streets.
In the molestation case at IIT BHU, the police added charges of gang rape (IPC 376-D) and sexual harassment through electronic means (IPC 509).
These charges were strengthened based on the victim's detailed testimony recorded in front of the magistrate as well as the police. According to sources, the victim told the police that the assailants touched her private parts, forcibly stripped her, and threatened to upload the video on social media.
