In the case of a six-story building collapse in Surat, Gujarat, the police have filed a criminal case against three individuals, including the builder. One accused has been arrested. On Saturday, a six-story building in Pal village, under Surat Municipal Corporation, collapsed. After extensive efforts, a woman was rescued safely, but seven individuals lost their lives.
The six-story Kailash Raj Residency in the Sachin GIDC area of Surat has been reduced to rubble. Residents were at home on Saturday afternoon when the building suddenly collapsed. The Surat Fire Brigade team initiated a rescue operation, and NDRF and SDRF teams were called in to assist at the scene.
FIR Registered Against 3 Including Building Owner
After extensive efforts, a woman was safely rescued from the rubble, but seven individuals lost their lives. The debris removal operation has been ongoing for about 16 hours. Additionally, Surat police have registered a case under Sections 105 and 54 of the Indian Penal Code against the building’s owner Raj Kakadia, his mother Ramila Kakadia, and caretaker Ashwin Vakaria.

Accused Knew Building Was Uninhabitable
According to the police, the investigation revealed that the accused were aware the building was uninhabitable. Despite this, they continued to rent out flats. The tenants had also complained about needed repairs, but they were assured that repairs would be made the following year.
SP's Statement on the Case
ACP Nirav Gohil stated that the building owner Raj Kakadia is currently in America, while his mother is at large. The police have arrested caretaker Ashwin Vakaria in this case. It is reported that the six-story building had around 35 flats, but despite its dilapidated condition, people were still renting flats. The police, now deeply involved in the investigation, will take samples of the rubble for FSL analysis. Further investigation will proceed based on the report from the R&B department experts.
