In Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, lightning strikes tragically claimed the lives of 7 individuals. Wednesday evening saw the fatality of 3 people in Lambhua tehsil, 3 in Jayasinghpur tehsil, and 1 in Kadipur tehsil, each at different locations. The incident has thrown the bereaved families into mourning. The District Magistrate (DM) assured post-mortem reports would be followed by aid to the affected families.
The event occurred in Raja Umri village under Chanda police jurisdiction, where Kamla Yadav and her neighbor, Kishor Rudra Pratap Yadav, were struck by lightning while picking mangoes. On-the-spot responders rushed them to the Community Health Center in Pratappur Kamaicha, where they were declared deceased.
Meanwhile, Nancy, a resident of Basuhi village, was also caught in a lightning strike while tending to the fields and suffered severe injuries. The local authorities, including Lambhua's Tehsildar Devanand Tiwari and the in-charge of Chanda Police Station, Ved Prakash Sharma, along with the accountant Balram Singh, arrived at the scene to console the families and assure them of support.
In yet another incident, Shariful Nisha from Ramchandrapur village in Gosainganj police area was planting rice in her fields when she sought shelter under a Mahua tree during a downpour. A sudden lightning strike claimed her life on the spot.
Ravi Yadav from Saraiya Kelhanpur under the Jayasinghpur police jurisdiction met with the same fate while planting rice with his family. A loud thunderbolt followed by lightning led to his grievous injuries and eventual death.
Kanti, from Deeh Bhikhari village, was declared dead after lightning struck her amidst light rain while she was planting rice in her fields.
SDM Jayasinghpur Vipin Dwivedi stated that after the autopsies, the government will aid the victims' families. Furthermore, District Magistrate Kritika Jyotsna instructed local administration officers to provide all possible help to the distressed families and confirmed that compensation will be issued post-postmortem.
