The influential Sonu-Monu brothers faced a significant blow in the Dhanpatganj Block Chief by-election in Sultanpur. BJP's Parvati Saroj triumphed in this election, defeating Sonu-Monu's mother, SP candidate Usha Singh. Out of 81 votes, Usha Singh managed only 39, while BJP's Parvati Saroj secured 42 votes. Since 1984, this block had been dominated by the family or close associates of the formidable brothers, but now BJP has seized control.
This significant election on August 22 marked an end to the longtime dominance of Sonu-Monu's family over the Dhanpatganj Block Chief position, a stronghold since independence.

From independence until 1984, this post was held by Sonu-Monu's grandfather, Sharda Prasad Singh. The political journey of the 'Bhadra family' began here. The seat, long occupied by the Bhadra family, was claimed by BJP's Parvati Saroj. Out of 81, she received backing from 42 area panchayat members, while SP's Usha Singh had to settle with just 39 votes. Parvati Saroj credited her victory to BJP MLA and former minister Vinod Singh.
Former Block Chief Yashbhadra Singh alias Monu had to vacate the seat after receiving a two-year sentence from Sultanpur's MP MLA Court. SP nominated his mother Usha Singh, while BJP backed Parvati Saroj for the position.

Meanwhile, Parvati Saroj upheld BJP's trust, secured a monumental victory, and dismantled the Bhadra family's political fortress. BJP MLA Vinod Singh stated that Sonu-Monu maintained political dominance through criminal means, which was dismantled by a Dalit woman defeating them.

From independence until 1984, Yashbhadra Singh (Monu)'s grandfather Sharda Prasad Singh held the block chief position. In 1984, Monu's father Indrabhadra Singh took charge. After being elected as an MLA from Isauli in 1989, he appointed his close aide Adya Prasad Singh as Block Chief. Later, Indrabhadra Singh's close associate Shyam Sundar Singh assumed the role. In 1999, his wife Usha Singh was elected as Block Chief.
After Indrabhadra Singh's assassination in 1999, Sonu and Monu entered politics. Sonu was elected as MLA in the 2002 elections, and Monu took the Block Chief seat in 2005, holding it for a decade. When the seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes in 2015, Monu's supporter Janaki Devi was elected as Block Chief.
