Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, often in the spotlight for his statements, has now revealed the motivations behind his foray into politics. He stated that the imposition of Emergency in India spurred his political career.

At a recent private event on Tuesday, Gadkari addressed the audience, sharing that their fight against the Emergency, which lasted for two years, will not be forgotten. During that tumultuous period, several of his family members were also incarcerated, which further cemented his reasons for entering politics.

Recalling Conversation with Nanaji Deshmukh

In his speech, Gadkari reminisced about his interactions with RSS stalwart Nanaji Deshmukh and newspaper businessman Ramnath Goenka, acknowledging Goenka's unwavering commitment to democracy. Despite their resistance to the Emergency, they, along with many others, paid a heavy price for their opposition.

It is noteworthy that Nitin Gadkari is an MP representing Nagpur in Maharashtra. He secured impressive victories in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections from this constituency. The BJP has already declared him as their candidate for the upcoming election.

Gadkari began his political journey as a student leader with the BJP's student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Later on, he joined the BJP Youth Wing and went on to serve as the BJP's President from 2009 to 2012.
