The Samajwadi Party has announced its candidates for six seats in Uttar Pradesh. Speculation arose that SP fielded their candidates for the seats Congress was demanding, raising doubts about the alliance between the two parties in UP. However, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav clarified that the alliance between SP and Congress will continue.

After paying tribute to his father and SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav in Saifai, Akhilesh Yadav spoke to the media, stating he wouldn't comment extensively on the by-elections. He assured that the alliance with Congress remains strong in the state.

On Wednesday, the Samajwadi Party announced its candidates for Karhal in Mainpuri, Phulpur in Prayagraj, Katehri in Ambedkarnagar, Majhwan in Mirzapur, Milkipur in Ayodhya, and Sisamau in Kanpur. Akhilesh Yadav chose Tej Pratap Yadav for Karhal, Mustafa Siddiqui for Phulpur, Ajit Prasad (son of MP Awadhesh Prasad) for Milkipur, Jyoti Bind (daughter of former MP Ramesh Bind) for Majhwan, Shobhawati Verma (wife of Lalji Verma) for Katehri, and Nasim Solanki (wife of Irfan Solanki) for Sisamau.

Ajay Rai Was Seeking the Majhwan Seat for His Son

There were reports that Ajay Rai, Congress's state president, was aiming to secure the Majhwan seat for his son Shantanu Rai. Meanwhile, Congress was assertively vying for the Phulpur Sadar seat in Prayagraj. Akhilesh Yadav, however, closed the door for Congress in his first list for both seats, prompting questions about the alliance between the two parties.
