In a major blow to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Arvinder Singh Lovely has resigned from his position as the president of the Delhi Congress Committee. Sanjay Nirupam, ousted from the party in Maharashtra, has responded by attributing Lovely's resignation to a wrongful alliance and the high command's arrogance.

Writing on social media platform 'X', Sanjay Nirupam stated, "A setback for Delhi's Congress with Lovely's resignation. Reasons? A misguided alliance, the arrogance of command, and a breakdown of communication."

The BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla's reaction has also come to light, in which he remarked, "The Congress Party is devoid of any mission or vision; it's merely submerged in delusion, division, and contradiction. We've seen Delhi's party workers opposing ticket allotments to individuals like Kanhaiya Kumar, who insulted armed forces and hailed Naxalites as martyrs. AAP had asserted that we've obliterated Congress's existence in Delhi. They had threatened jail for Sheila Dikshit and Sonia Gandhi. Congress complained about AAP's involvement in liquor scandals, yet for political agendas, they united. This doesn't mean voters will unite. Today's Congress is unable to retain its leaders as they are reflecting the party's hypocrisy to itself."

Arvinder Singh Lovely, in his letter to the high command, wrote that he felt helplessly paralyzed within the party and thus could not continue as Delhi's president. Lovely accused Deepak Bavaria, the in-charge of Delhi Congress, of unilaterally halting decisions agreed upon unanimously by local party leaders. Since becoming Delhi's party chief, he was never permitted to appoint anyone to a senior position.

Why was Sanjay Nirupam Expelled from the Party?

Nirupam was expelled by the Congress earlier this month for engaging in anti-party activities. He was consistently outspoken against the party. Nirupam wanted to contest the Mumbai North West seat as a Congress candidate, but the seat was allocated to Amol Kirtikar of the Shiv Sena UBT, which infuriated Nirupam. He had previously criticized the Shiv Sena UBT for dominating the seat-sharing negotiations with Congress. The clamor for action against Nirupam grew when he attacked the Maharashtra Congress for yielding to Thackeray-led party during the seat-sharing talks for the Lok Sabha elections.
