In a surprising turn in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a case of robbery has been filed against eight individuals involved in the incident that led to the death of a man accused by a mob. Officials disclosed on Sunday that the case developed after a plaint from the mother of an accused involved in the alleged mob lynching. On the night of June 18, Mohammed Farid (35) was fatally beaten by a mob in the Mamu Bhanja area.
Following this incident, communal tension escalated in the locality. Initially, seven were charged, and six were taken into custody. Laxmi Mittal, the mother of Rahul, one of the arrested suspects, filed a complaint that led to the robbery charge.
'Attempted to Harass Before Robbing'
Mittal alleged that on the night of June 18, Mohammed Farid alias Aurangzeb intruded into her home and attempted to harass her before attempting to steal valuables. She claimed when her family pursued Farid, he lost his balance and fell down the stairs, which led to injuries resulting in his death.
'FIR Filed Against Eight Individuals'
Aside from Farid, Mittal also named Salman, Mohammed Zaki, and six others in her complaint. Police have filed a case under IPC sections 354 and 395 (robbery) against the deceased and other accused.
Police Statement on the Case
Circle Officer Sisodia remarked that in light of newly uncovered facts, robbery charges against seven named and two unidentified suspects have been filed. However, the deceased's family had earlier claimed that Farid was beaten by locals suspecting theft as he returned home from work.
Superintendent of Police M. Shekhar Pathak noted that by the time police arrived at the scene, Farid was seriously injured. He was transported to Malkhan Singh Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
