During the Monsoon Session on Thursday, the Rajya Sabha witnessed a commotion involving Jaya Bachchan once again. Led by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, opposition parties staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha on Friday in support of the Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachchan.
After the walkout, Sonia Gandhi and other opposition leaders addressed the media. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari stated, 'Jaya Ji is one of the most senior members of the House. The entire opposition stands with her statement.'
What Jaya Bachchan Said
Jaya Bachchan remarked, 'What is said from the Chair is permissible. However, if one steps off the Chair, they are like any other MP and not our provider. I objected to the tone used by the Chairman. We are not school children. Some of us are senior citizens. I was upset with his tone, especially when the Leader of the Opposition stood to speak, and he switched off the mic. How can this be done? This is against tradition.'
The Full Incident
During Rajya Sabha proceedings, SP MP Jaya Bachchan questioned the tone of Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Jaya said, 'I am an artist; I understand body language and expressions. Forgive me, but your tone is unacceptable.' The Chairman became incensed at her remarks, leading to a significant uproar in the House, and the opposition walked out.

Reacting to Jaya Bachchan, the Chairman said, 'You've achieved great things. You understand that an actor's subject is the director. You're questioning my tone. I will not tolerate this. You're a celebrity.' The opposition countered by saying, 'She is a senior member of parliament. How can you call her a celebrity?' The Chairman responded, 'Senior members are undermining the Chair. I have my script.' Following this, opposition members raised slogans and walked out of the House.
Previously, Jaya Was Also Upset with 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' Address
Not long ago, Jaya Bachchan had also been upset on two occasions when addressed as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' in the House. When Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh addressed her with her full name, she was enraged. She retorted, 'Sir, just saying Jaya Bachchan is enough.'
The Deputy Chairman explained that he read it that way as it was written in full. Jaya responded, 'A new trend is starting where women are known by their husband's name. They have no identity, no achievements.'

A similar incident occurred on August 5th when Jaya Bachchan got agitated over the Chair addressing her with her husband's name during a Monday session. The Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar referred to her as Jay Amitabh Bachchan, which angered the SP MP. She later accepted an apology from the Chairman.
Jaya thanked the Chairman, saying, 'Thank you, sir, do you know what Amitabh means?' The Chairman responded, 'Ma'am, change it, and I will address you accordingly.' He further calmed her by stating that the name on the election certificate and the one deposited here is followed.
