Could the Rajendra Nagar Accident Have Been Avoided? Student Filed Complaint About Waterlogging Days Before

Following the death of three students due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, protests continue. So far, seven people, including the owner and coordinator of the coaching center, have been arrested. New revelations are coming to light in the case. It has now been discovered that a student attending the coaching center had lodged a complaint about waterlogging with the PWD days before the tragedy.

Earlier, Kishore Singh Kushwaha, who is preparing for UPSC, filed a complaint with the Delhi government on June 26, stating that RAU's IAS Coaching was operating classrooms in the basement without an NOC. Kishore lodged this complaint via the Public Grievance Portal. In his complaint, Kishore also mentioned the potential for a major accident.

The Student Complained About the Basement

Furthermore, on July 15 and July 22, he sent reminders in his complaint, stating that this is a critical issue requiring immediate action. Kishore mentioned, 'I filed a complaint about the basement on June 26, 2024. Through the Public Grievance Portal, I informed both the central and state government that libraries and coaching centers in Old Rajendra Nagar and South Patel Nagar are operating in basements.'

Kishore stated, 'I complained about RAU's Coaching Center's basement because it appeared to pose a risk for an accident. Such incidents are entirely the responsibility of the administration. The government should take appropriate steps and take solid action against such operators.'

A Total of Seven Arrests So Far

It is worth noting that in the case of three students' deaths due to basement waterlogging, the police have arrested an additional five people. Earlier, the owner and the coordinator of the coaching center were also arrested. Thus, a total of seven arrests have been made in this case so far. The police have also arrested the driver of the SUV, which reportedly increased the water pressure leading to the flooding of the building.
