In June this year, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma of Rajasthan announced a 50% reservation for women in the recruitment of third-grade primary school teachers in Level-1. However, the Law Department has put a pause on this decision made by its own government. On June 14, the government issued a notification regarding this directive, but the Law Department has now halted the Education Department's 50% reservation proposal.
Due to three significant objections, the Law Department has sent back the file to the Education Department for the second time within a month. Detailed information on these objections has been requested from the Director of Elementary Education in Bikaner, in order to secure approval for the proposal from the Law Department. It appears this process might take some time, while the Rajasthan government has already announced the REET-2025 teacher eligibility exam to be conducted at the start of the new year, in January.
On the other hand, the Education Department is eager to finalize the third-grade teacher recruitment Level-1 swiftly, aiming to establish a 50% reservation for women. Therefore, the Preliminary Education Department has instructed the Director of Elementary Education to provide clarifications along with facts on the objections raised by the Law Department to secure proposal approval.
The Education Department has accelerated its efforts to complete this promptly. It sent a second revised proposal on October 7, which was returned by the Law Department on October 17.
The Law Department stated that the Panchayati Raj Act in Rajasthan provides reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, while current job reservations apply to Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes. It is unclear how to provide reservation benefits for individuals with disabilities.
