This marks an official visit post his participation in the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro. Having concluded meetings in Rio, the Prime Minister is now in Brasília for bilateral discussions, where he has also greeted the Indian community.
Upon his arrival in Brasília, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed with the traditional Brazilian 'Samba Reggae' music. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal remarked that this visit is crucial for further enhancing the robust partnership between India and Brazil. He described the reception as traditional yet lively and musical.
Brazilians In Brasília gave a rousing welcome to Prime Minister Modi at a local hotel. The Prime Minister warmly engaged with the Indian diaspora in Brazil.
Anticipated Signing of Strategic Agreements
Bilaterals are on the agenda in Brasília between Prime Minister Modi and Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Indian Ambassador to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia, had previously announced that substantial agreements are to be signed during this meeting.
These agreements will cover joint strategies against terrorism, sharing confidential information, cooperation in renewable energy, and agricultural research. Such agreements are set to strengthen mutual trust and strategic partnerships between the nations. The foreign ministry noted that the leaders will explore opportunities for collaboration in trade, defense, energy, space, technology, health, and agriculture.
Successful BRICS Summit
Before arriving in Brasília, Prime Minister Modi attended the BRICS summit held from July 6-7. Commenting on this, he stated, "The Rio leg of the Brazil tour was highly productive. We engaged in meaningful discussions on diverse topics at the BRICS summit. I extend my congratulations to President Lula and the Brazilian government for a successful chairmanship." He praised Brazil's commendable role in transforming BRICS into a more effective platform.
Following the bilateral engagements in Brasília, Prime Minister Modi will head to Namibia, marking the final stage of his diplomatic tour across five countries. The foreign ministry emphasized that this visit to Namibia is essential for bolstering strategic partnerships.
