In response to the devastating wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, President Joe Biden has canceled what was to be his final overseas journey as President. This blaze has claimed five lives and forced thousands to evacuate. Planned to head to Italy on Thursday afternoon, Biden's decision to cancel was made just hours after he visited Los Angeles to greet his first great-grandchild, who was born at a local hospital on Wednesday.

Before returning to Washington, President Biden engaged with local fire authorities to get briefed on the situation. Upon his return, he declared a major disaster in California due to the fires.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated on Wednesday, "President Biden has decided to cancel his upcoming trip to Italy to direct federal efforts in the coming days." This was to be Biden's concluding international trip during his presidency.

It's noteworthy that over 100,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes due to the wildfires in Los Angeles. Tragically, at least five lives have been lost. A significant number of Indian Americans have also sought safety away from their homes. The rampant fire has scorched over 70 square kilometers across three areas, including the Palisades west of Los Angeles, north of Pasadena in Eaton, and the San Fernando Valley.

Parts of Hollywood faced evacuation orders on Wednesday as fires rekindled in the hills. California Governor Gavin Newsom has mobilized over 7,500 firefighters and emergency personnel to combat the destructive blaze. The Department of Defense has deployed their resources, including 10 Naval helicopters and C-130 aircraft.

Sabrina Singh, Deputy Spokesperson of the Pentagon, informed reporters that the California National Guard is adding two Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System units, and two more are being readied by the Nevada National Guard. Los Angeles city announced that helicopters are dropping water from above, while hundreds of firefighters are responding to the crisis on the ground.
