After Ballia and Sitapur, Police Action in Mirzapur: 30 Cops Relocated

The police department is in action mode after the extortion scandal in Ballia. Meanwhile, 30 policemen in Mirzapur have been relocated.

In Uttar Pradesh, the police department has become vigilant after the extortion case at the UP-Bihar border in Ballia. The department is now identifying and continuously acting against such police stations. Following Ballia and Sitapur, around 30 constables from different stations in Mirzapur have been reassigned due to complaints of illegal extortion. These constables had been stationed at the same police stations for several years.

The order issued by the Superintendent of Police in Mirzapur stated that the respective in-charge should ensure the reassignment of the aforementioned chief constables/constables to their newly appointed locations. Strict actions will be taken against those who violate these regulations.

Daily Extortion of 500,000 Rupees from Trucks

At the UP-Bihar border in Ballia, policemen were collecting extortion of 500,000 rupees daily. This entire extortion racket was uncovered by DIG Vaibhav Krishna and ADG of Varanasi rank who disguised as helpers in trucks. The involvement of police personnel from Narhi police station was found in this case. Subsequently, 16 brokers and 2 policemen were arrested.

According to DIG Vaibhav Krishna and Varanasi rank ADG, policemen were extorting 500 rupees daily from each truck passing with the help of brokers. Around 1000 trucks pass daily, which resulted in daily extortion of 500,000 rupees by the policemen.

Police Action Taken So Far in Various Districts

After the Ballia extortion racket, the police department has been continuously taking action. So far, actions have been taken against policemen in various police stations in districts such as Ballia, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Varanasi. It is said that the policemen in these stations had not been transferred for many years.
