Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, has announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will span from July 21 to August 21. Initially, the session was proposed to run from July 21 to August 12. Typically, the Monsoon session concludes before Independence Day (August 15); however, this year marks the first instance of it extending beyond August 15.
Rijiju mentioned that President Droupadi Murmu has approved the new session dates, with proceedings beginning on July 21 and continuing until August 21, 2025. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will commence their proceedings at 11 AM on the first day.
This session is viewed as significant, particularly as the Opposition recently requested a special session of Parliament. On June 3, a letter was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Opposition, urging immediate discussions on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent military operation, Operation Sindoor, initiated by the government. Through this operation, Indian forces targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK.
The government has clarified that discussions on all these issues will occur during the Monsoon session. Therefore, there is no need for a separate session. This decision reflects the government's strategy to incorporate all legislative and political discussions within the designated session timeframe.
