During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, members were asking questions about leftist extremism. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, was responding to the questions. Meanwhile, TMC MP Professor Saugat Roy from Dumdum mentioned West Bengal in a question. In response to Professor Roy's question, Home Minister Amit Shah stood up, smiled, and said, "I believe no state would want to adopt the West Bengal model."
Professor Saugat Roy stated that the issue of leftist extremism has persisted in four to five states over the past 10-15 years, especially in Chhattisgarh, followed by Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, Kolhapur in Odisha, and then Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned that encounters with Maoists still occur weekly, and the problem hasn't been resolved.
Referring to West Bengal, Saugat Roy said that leftist extremism was also present there, but due to the developmental works carried out by Mamata Banerjee's government and the employment opportunities given to tribal youths, only one Kishanji had to be eliminated, and leftist extremism was quelled. Speaker Om Birla interrupted Professor Roy and asked him to state his question clearly.

The TMC MP then asked the Home Minister if he would study the West Bengal model and implement it in Chhattisgarh and other states, as these states are unable to control the situation. In response, Home Minister Amit Shah said that if any state performs well, the Narendra Modi government has no issues with implementing their examples nationwide. However, he opined that no state would want to adopt the West Bengal model.
