Dr. Fauzia Khan, an MP from Maharashtra representing the Congress, introduced the Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse Amendment Act 2024. During discussions on this private member bill, a rare moment of camaraderie appeared when a BJP MP lauded an opposition NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MP.
BJP MP Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal expressed his admiration for NCP MP Dr. Fauzia Khan, saying, 'I am personally a great admirer of Fauzia Ji. A sensitive bill like this could only be introduced by someone as compassionate as her. Whenever Fauzia Ji introduces a topic, it is always of significant importance. However, I must say, she is the right person but in the wrong place.'
After Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal's remarks, an opposition member commented from their bench. In response, the BJP MP invited them, mentioning that he had extended an open invitation in the last budget session to join their side. He also referenced an incident of child abuse he dealt with during his tenure when a girl suffered in school.
Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal pointed out that child sexual abuse often occurs more within homes, among relatives, friends, and close relations in villages than outside. Just as he was speaking, Kerala's Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas interjected. In rebuttal, the BJP MP quipped that he could speak for two full days on the system Brittas referred to.
He continued, stating he's aware of all activities as he once managed the affairs there. He emphasized that acknowledging the good is essential; only then can one earn the right to narrate the wrong. Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal humorously concluded by saying, 'You are so dear to us. Everyone knows that when it comes to sons-in-law, on one side, there's the brother of one's wife.'
