On Saturday, thousands of people in southwestern Mexico were forced to abandon their homes. The impact of this cyclone has been ongoing for about a week, with reports of around 22 deaths.

The worst hit by this storm is the poorest region of Mexico, Guerrero, where approximately 18 people have died. According to local media, many of these deaths were due to landslides. There are reports of three deaths in the southern region of Oaxaca and one young boy drowning in a river in the northern state of Michoacán.

Fortunately, Cyclone John began to weaken on Friday (September 27) and is no longer considered an active storm.

Devastation in the USA Due to Cyclone Helen

On the other hand, Cyclone Helen in the USA has caused massive destruction. The storm had a maximum speed of 225 kilometers per hour when it hit the sparsely populated rural Big Bend area in Florida late Thursday night. More than 50 people have died due to this storm, and thousands are reported homeless. President Biden posted, saying that they are monitoring the situation closely and providing all possible assistance to the people.

President Biden stated that their primary focus is to save lives. He is continuously being updated by his team. He is in constant contact with state and local officials. His administration was already in touch with the people of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee before Helen's arrival. Even long after this storm has passed, they will remain on the ground, helping them recover.
