In an inspiring turn of events at Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital, the organ donation from a brain-dead migrant worker has gifted three patients a fresh start. The 43-year-old, Hari Singh Chauhan, originally from Rajasthan, supported his life through laborious work. With consent from his family, his liver and both kidneys were generously donated to those in desperate need. Hari Singh's decision has thus rewritten the destinies of three individuals.
Hari Singh, on his work route, met with an unfortunate accident in Udaipur. Following the crash, he was admitted to Ahmedabad's government hospital on June 17. After intensive care, doctors declared him brain-dead on June 26.
Three individuals blessed with new life
Hari Singh was single, supported by his mother and brother, Mahendra Singh. Upon learning of Hari Singh’s brain-dead status, doctors explained the possibility of organ donation to his family, who, realizing the positive impact his organs could have, agreed to the donation. Hence, Hari Singh's two kidneys and liver found a new purpose in saving lives.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi, superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, remarked on the significance of this event as the 158th organ donation at their facility. The received kidneys and liver are set to be transplanted into patients in dire need. Dr. Joshi highlighted that counseling is provided to the families of brain-dead patients to assist them in understanding the patient's condition and the profound impact of organ donation.
Dr. Joshi further mentioned the readiness of many families to donate organs. Hari Singh's donation marks the 158th instance of such generosity at Civil Hospital, bringing the total to 511 organs received through donations to date. Thanks to these acts of selflessness, 495 people have been gifted a renewed chance at life.
